Genius Catalyst – Author CASE STUDY
Marcie moved from Overwhelm and Resistance to Excitement!
Resistance and Overwhelm
A woman I’ll call Marcie (not her real name), engaged with me because a story was being revealed to her that was too horrific for her to imagine, much less write deeply about.
Nonetheless, the main character continually visited her during walks in nature, and began to reveal threads of his life and the story he wanted to tell; the story he wanted her to tell.
This character had been through an incredible trauma, and being very empathic, Marcie was quite overwhelmed by the grief the character was enduring. In addition, she felt his confusion as a group of other beings attempted to coerce him to adopt the ways of their culture.
Because of the way the story was presenting to her, she felt it was very important, and on some level knew it was a gift that was given to her by Spirit. Yet the weight of the story on her spirit was palpable when we spoke. She was stuck, and not sure she wanted to continue.
Hitting Close to Home
It’s not uncommon for authors to internalize the emotional states of their characters as they begin to breathe life into them, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
Marcie also felt a strong desire to honor the gift she’d been given. She wanted to be excited to write the story, but excitement didn’t feel like even a remote possibility. So she settled for a desire to be “willing, open and accepting” to receive it.
As we began to explore the story together, I learned how deeply it felt as though the main character was being channeled through her. This character was a part of her. And because of that deeply personal connection, and the intensity of the story, Marcie resisted it. It all felt too heavy for her to take on.
Opening the Gift
Together we explored the essence, motivation, and heart (or Spirit) behind her story.
We looked at how the story affected HER energy, and what she could do to change the way the story drained her, and at the same time allow her to go even deeper with it.
We identified the meaning the story had for Marcie as the author, as well as the journey her main character was on.
We identified a very simple way that Marcie could get in touch with her main character, allowing him to reveal what he needed to reveal, and how she could get in touch with a more complete range of his soul expression, in a way that also felt safe and honoring to HER spirit.
Together we explored what Marcie needed to let go of while allowing herself to accept the story and the gifts it held for her and her life.
And lastly, I got to experience the joy as Marcie detailed the steps she planned to take moving forward from a place of excitement to see what the story would reveal. Yes, she was excited to continue :)
